The soils are very poor, with a low clay content, but with a characteristic of Ribeiro: a high content of granite sand called "Sabrego". The mountains isolate the region from the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. The slightly continental climate, combined with prevailing winds, causes a significant temperature difference between day and night, which favors the slow maturation of polyphenols, making the wine intense and aromatic.

The soil and climate conditions in the Avia River valley are optimal for cultivating native grape varieties, such as Treixadura, Albariño, and Loureira among the white grapes, and Mencía, Caíño, and Sousón among the red grapes.

History of the winery

Señorío de Beade is a family-owned winery founded by the González-Vázquez family in 1987. It is located in the town of Beade, in Ourense, within the boundaries of the D.O. Ribeiro. Since its founding, the winery has made significant investments and incorporated advanced technologies for the production of both white and red wines, while honoring local winemaking traditions and the unique qualities of native grape varieties.

Bodegas A Portela captures the essence of Ribeiro wines. The winery produces both red and white wines from indigenous grape varieties grown on the slopes of the Avia River, the birthplace of the D.O. Ribeiro.

Vineyards

Currently, the winery owns 12 hectares of its own vineyards and exclusively manages another 15 hectares of plots in the Avia River valley in Beade. The optimal orientation of the vineyards, solar exposure, and soil characteristics give the wines distinctive qualities that make them unique and characteristic.

The use of native grape varieties, combined with quality work in the winery, allows the production of wines with character, distinguished by their elegance, freshness, and a marked varietal profile. This is reflected in numerous awards and recognition both nationally and internationally.
