The main characteristic of Ribera del Duero is its extreme continental climate: dry summers, cold and long winters, low precipitation (<400 mm/year), and large temperature fluctuations (ranging from -20 °C to 42 °C). The soil consists of clayey or silty sands, with alternating layers of limestone. This combination of climate and soil creates a unique environment that favors the production of high-quality wines. The region is mainly known for the Tempranillo grape variety, which here reaches its maximum potential, producing intense, structured wines with excellent aging capacity.
As a result, the grapes are high-quality, small, with thick skins and perfect ripening: slow and late, which contributes to the aromatic complexity and exceptional character of the wines.

History of the winery
Founded in 2001, the winery is located in Valbuena de Duero, in the province of Valladolid, at the heart of the “Golden Mile” of Ribera del Duero, near the river that nourishes the vineyards and the Monastery of Santa María de Valbuena. Since its beginnings, Bodegas Lleiroso has focused on export, starting with the sale of its first wines in Europe, the United States, and Mexico. These key markets remain fundamental for the winery today. The winery has always been dedicated to producing high-quality wines, paying close attention to every detail of the winemaking process.
As a family business, it guarantees a strong commitment to quality and long-term stability. Special care is given to the vineyards, as great wines are first created in the vineyard and then in the winery.
Vineyards
The Tempranillo grape variety is used for wine production. The grapes come both from the winery’s own vineyards, located around the estate at an altitude of 780 meters, and from carefully selected growers, with whom close collaboration is maintained throughout the year. The vines’ ages range from 25 to 80 years. Their deep roots ensure resistance to the region’s harsh climatic conditions, resulting in low yields but grapes of exceptional quality. The soils are alluvial in origin, composed of limestone and clay with gray-brown veins.
Special attention is given to the careful handling of the grapes. Harvesting is done manually in small 15 kg boxes, preserving each berry in perfect condition. The clusters undergo a strict selection on a sorting table before being gently destemmed and crushed directly into the fermentation tanks, without the use of mechanical equipment.
